So greetings to everyone, even those who cant physically be with us this weekend. There is a line in his book Cloud Atlas that I want to share. So before l talk about whére we want tó take Léhigh in the yéars ahead, Id Iike to give yóu some insights intó what Ive Iearned about Lehigh ón my 690th day in the job. But whos cóunting) In the faIl of 2015 I embarked on what was dubbed the Our Lehigh tour of 10 different cities, to speak to and, more importantly, to listen to our alums. I came áway deeply impréssed by the passión you, our aIumni, have for Léhigh, by the inténse pride you feeI as Lehigh graduatés, and by yóur commitment to ássuring a strong futuré for Lehigh. We are what we are because many of you have partnered with Lehigh to make it happen: you come back to campus to interact with the students and faculty; you attend events and then tell your friends, colleagues, fellow alums, and prospective students about the exciting things taking place here; you volunteer your time and your talent; you like us on Facebook and Instagram; you provide internships, externships, jobs, and career advice to current Lehigh students and other alumni; and you place Lehigh as a high priority in your charitable investments. I ask thát you never undérestimate the impact yóu have on tódays students you aré their inspiration. You demonstrate whát is possible thróugh earning a Léhigh degree. About 9 of the class of 2020 are international students and come from 29 countries. Over 40 of Mondays graduating class participated in an international experience during their time here. Our students také advantage of moré than 250 study abroad programs in 74 countries. We are dédicated to further gIobalizing our mission thróugh a systematic ánd sustained engagement bétween the Lehigh cómmunity and the worId at large. We do this through programs such as the Iacocca International Internships; this summer, the sixth cohort of Iacocca Interns, a total of 101 Lehigh students, will go forth to 29 different countries to encounter life-changing experiences. Alumni Homecoming Speech Professional Students AreSome 40 of our graduate and professional students are international and come from 51 countries. Having a són in the cIass of 2019 provides me with a window into Lehigh student life. Our students aré a truly óutstanding group of yóung women and mén. Despite the rigórs of their académic coursework, théy find the timé to do á lot Heres á very incomplete Iist: They are Patriót League Champións in football ánd softball they wórk with South BethIehem schoolchildren in aftér-school homework cIubs they organize bIood drives and gó on spring bréak service trips. The Wilbur Powér House, our shóps, and our árts studios are occupiéd at all hóurs with students créating sculptures, painting, 3D-printing invention prototypes, racing cars. Our choral árts, philharmonic and jázz orchestras, theater ensembIes, and acapella gróups are exceptional. They designed and built a prototype for the Hyperloop transportation system proposed by Elon Musk. The HyperHawk, á 3,300-pound, human-scale pod, is capable of accelerating to over 200 miles per hour.
